Why this exists
The Global Nepali started as a YouTube channel — a way to document the small, specific moments of Nepali life that don't usually make it into the news: a family's first Dashain in a new country, the momo shop that became a neighborhood's unofficial community center, the quiet work of building a life somewhere far from where you grew up.
Somewhere along the way it became clear that the Nepali diaspora — spread across nearly every continent — didn't have a shared place to find each other. Not another news site, not another social feed, but something closer to a hub: videos and a podcast for the stories, an events calendar for what's actually happening nearby, and a directory for the businesses that make a new place feel a little more like home.
This is a side project for now, run out of San Jose, California, with plans to travel further — city by city, and eventually well beyond the U.S. — as it grows.
Manoj Panthi — founder, and the person behind the camera on most of what you'll find here. Based in San Jose, California.
